Financial Controller

Salary in the region of £31,626 - £33,555 per annum

This is a full time, fixed term appointment for 6 months.

To be responsible for the day to day management of the Accounts Team, other key deliverables for the role:
  • To provide advice and guidance on the interpretation and application of PML accounting policies and procedures and external rules and regulations eg HMRC.
  • Maintain Accounting System including ledger posting, control reconciliations etc.
  • Maintenance of HSBC net electronic banking.
  • Preparation of month end management accounts file and draft management accounts for review by the Director of Finance.
  • Assistance and liaison with external auditors (statutory and funding bodies).
  • Management of regulatory requirements from statutory bodies, tax returns, Charity Commission documents.
  • Maintenance separate accounts for subsidiary organisations.
  • Preparation of cash forecasting including foreign currency for review with the Director of Finance.
  • Working with the Director of Finance on organisational financial planning including the annual budget cycle.
  • Control over Fixed Asset records, requisitions for additions, disposals and physical identification.
  • Ad-hoc projects as arising and agreed with the Director of Finance.

Skills and Experience

The applicant must have:

  • At least 5 years working in an Accounts Department.
  • Have a strong numerical understanding underpinned with sound financial practices for excellent data integrity with sound skill set in financial and management accounting.
  • An intermediate to high level Excel user also some experience of business reporting cubes/tools highly desirable.
  • Experience of managing staff of varying levels would be preferable
  • Some experience of working in the scientific research area considered beneficial as is some understanding of Charity Accounting. Also experience of having working in a complex commercial environment welcomed.
  • Clear, concise and focussed communicator with their personal style.

The individual must be a qualified member of a recognised CCAB/CIMA Accounting body.
