Full Time – Open Ended Appointment

We are currently seeking an experienced Windows Server Systems and Infrastructure Specialist to manage and develop the Windows IT infrastructure at Plymouth Marine Laboratory. 

Working under the direction of the Head of the Information Technology Group you will be responsible for managing the development, support and maintenance of PML’s windows systems and line management of the windows support staff (consisting of two direct reports)

The work will involve both BAU & project work, working in a mid-enterprise level environment on the latest technology, in a period of ongoing server modernisation.

Key Deliverables:

  • To support and guide the development of the windows systems & network infrastructure within the ITG roadmap
  • To carry out systems administration and system development duties.
  • To research and evaluate new technologies
  • To provide backup support to other members of PML IT staff
  • Line Management for two ITG staff members.

Experience & Eligibility Requirements

  • The candidate will have:
  • 5+ years of experience working in a medium-sized enterprise level environment.
  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Have previous management experience of personnel.
  • Must be able to forecast resource usage. Work with suppliers in obtaining a value for money on projects
  • Purchasing of Hardware and Software

Technical Experience Required:

  • Hyper-V and optionally VMware ESXi 6
  • Windows Server administration 2008r2/2012/16 including Active Directory
  • Windows server and workstation updating (WSUS)
  • Microsoft Exchange server 2010
  • DFS and Microsoft Cluster Services
  • Dell hardware and Dell Open Manage
  • Understanding of network layers
  • Server Storage, preferably EMC/Dell

Additional Requirements:

  • Office 365 migration
  • Exchange Hybrid
  • Wireless technologies
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • VOIP
  • MCSE or equivalent certification
  • Cisco switching
  • Quest/Rapid Backup technologies
  • Windows 10/Office 365, Microsoft Intune would be advantageous
  • Understanding and Experience of the ITIL principles
