Legal and Pre-Award Finance Manager

Plymouth 

Salary: £33,160

Full Time, Open Ended Appointment 

 

Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is an internationally renowned research organization delivering high quality, impactful science that supports our vision for a healthy and sustainable ocean.

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with expertise in contract law to support our financial services team and science team, providing legal advice and expertise in writing contracts, contract negotiation and set up.

You will be responsible for:

  • Writing or reviewing, negotiating and agreeing contracts for PML and PML Applications covering all aspects of intellectual property, confidentiality, publications, liabilities, indemnities and other related issues;
  • advising principal investigators (PIs) on proposals and costing to ensure PML resource return is maximised, helping PIs to understand funding models;
  • provide Heads of Science with summary information to determine resource requirements;
  • contribute to the annual forecast process to identify future funding gaps;
  • advise project managers on the terms and conditions of funding and any other contractual issues;
  • support project budget reviews

A confident self-starter, you will have experience of advising on and developing contracts, including a sound knowledge of contract legislation, including intellectual property, GDPR, liabilities and indemnities.  Excellent written skills and IT skills are essential, including advanced excel and confidence with business systems. 

You will have excellent people skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of colleagues, bridging the gap between non-financial project managers, scientists together with colleagues within the financial services team.
